Encryption
Encryption is a technology that converts data using specific keys so that third parties without the appropriate keys cannot read the content. It is used in VPNs and HTTPS to protect the confidentiality of communications.
With VPNs, encrypting communications within the VPN tunnel reduces the risk of third parties intercepting the content during the transmission. However, the scope of encryption depends on the VPN method and settings. Moreover, even if it is encrypted, it cannot guarantee that the destination service itself is secure or that the device is not infected with malware.
