Kill switch
A kill switch is a feature that blocks internet traffic that does not pass through the VPN when the VPN connection is disconnected. It is used to prevent exposure of the IP address by switching to a normal network connection in the event that the VPN connection is unexpectedly disconnected.
The operation of the kill switch depends on the VPN service, operating system, and settings. There are methods that completely block all communication, and there are methods that control only specific apps or communications.
To minimize the risk of information leakage when a VPN connection is disconnected, it is important to check not only whether there is a kill switch but also the compatible devices and operating conditions.
